BATIK FABRIC DYEING

Learn the art of Batik in this 2 1/2 hour workshop.  Batik, originating from Java, Indonesia, is a technique of wax-resist dyeing.  The name stems from the Javanese word tik, meaning to dot.  The process involves painting hot wax onto your fabric prior to dyeing.  You are able to either follow a design or free hand the entire thing, creating one-of-a kind hand made fabrics.

PLEASE BRING:  Pre-washed fabric.  Natural white or light coloured fabric work the best, so please NO synthetics, stretch, jersey or dark materials.  Please limit the size of the material to no large than 18x24inches.  Pillowcases, placemats and kitchen towels work great for this introductory workshop.

PLEASE NOTE: After the workshop, once you get your freshly dyed fabric home, an iron will be needed to remove the left over wax.  You will be given directions for this final step before you leave The Shop.
